Vein Treatment

Varicose / Spider Veins

What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins are very small varicose veins. They are thin, threadlike veins that lie under the skin's surface. They are commonly red or purple in color, but can be blue or green. Spider veins can be hormonally induced, and associated with pregnancy or menstruation. Spider veins grow from reticular "feeder" veins. Feeder veins form a network that can give the skin a marbled appearance. These are usually located on the legs, but also occur on the face, hands, and other areas.

Spider Vein Treatment Options
Elysian Med Spa offers different treatment options for Spider Veins to meet your personal needs, including Sclerotherapy and Laser Therapy with our Cynosure Elite.

SCLEROTHERAPY

Sclerotherapy eliminates Spider Veins by a microinjection method that requires no pain medication or surgery. A solution (usually of salts) is injected through a tiny needle directly into the vein. The solution causes the blood vessel walls to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel fades from view. Sclerotherapy is a well-proven procedure and has been in use since the 1930s.

Before After

Am I a Candidate for Sclerotherapy?
Prior to the procedure, you will have a consultation when you can be advised of your suitability for sclerotherapy. Patients who are pregnant or on blood thinners are not good candidates.

How Is Sclerotherapy Done?
A solution is injected through a very fine needle directly into the vein. You may experience mild discomfort for one to two minutes, especiallywhen larger veins are injected. The procedure itself takes 15 to 30 minutes. The number of veins injected in one session depends on the size and location of the veins, as well as the patient's medical condition.

What You Need To Do Before the Procedure?
Prior to sclerotherapy, certain medications should be avoided. Be sure to tell us about everything you are taking, including prescriptions, over the counter medications, herbs, alchohol, and dietary supplements. Avoid asprin, ibuprofen, and other anti-inflammatory medications for 3 days before this procedure. Also be sure to tell us if you have a heart problems or other problems that require antibiotics before procedures.

No lotion should be applied to the area before the procedure. If the legs are being treated, it is advisable to bring shorts to wearduring the procedure.

Could Sclerotherapy Cause Any Side Effects?
You may experience certain side effects after sclerotherapy. Itching or raised, red areas at the injection site should resolve within a few days. Bruising may also occur, and may last several days or weeks.

Post Treatment
Following the procedure, we recommend you wear support stockings for 24-48 hours, and that you do not participate in any aerobic activity or sit in a hot tub for several days after the procedure. Once the vein closes, blood is rerouted to other veins.

Sclerotherapy is a safe, effective, and well-tolerated solution to ridding your body of unsightly spider veins.

CYNOSURE ELITE LASER THERAPY

Elysian Med Spa also offers a technologically advanced Cynosure Elite Laser therapy to treat spider veins.

A laser sends very direct, accurate bursts of light energy into the vein. This also causes changes in the vein, which lead to fading. This treatment works best for certain skin types and colors. Laser therapy is more appealing to some patients because it does not use any needles. Discomfort can be reduced by topical numbing cream. Laser treatments also take 15 to 30 minutes. Usually two to five sessions are needed to treat spider veins in the legs.
